Joseph Bissonnette (Bisnett)

My great uncle and brother to Alfred Bisnett (my grandfather)

Joseph was the son of Joseph Bissonnette and Celina Beauvais. He was born on March 14, 1871 in Brandon, Vermont and baptized June 22, 1871 at St. Joseph's Church in Cohoes, NY. His godparents were Celem Beauvais and Adele Guay. The family moved from Brandon, Vt. to Cohoes, NY sometime between March and June of 1871.
Joseph's first marriage was to Devina (Nellie) Ethier on November 23, 1890 at St. Joseph's Church in Cohoes, NY. Witnesses to the marriage were Alfred Daniel and Julia Bissonnette.
Devina was the daughter of Jean Baptiste and ? unknown.
Joseph and Devina had 6 children - Joseph Henri (1893-?), Alfred Leo (1894-?), Elizabeth (1895-?1948), her spouse was Edward Beaudoin. Louis Joseph, (1898-1953), his spouse Rita Aurelie Lavigne. Jean Walter (1900-?), Matilda (?1890-?).
Devina died July 14, 1919 at 105 Lancaster St, Cohoes, NY
Joseph's second marriage was to Edna Laberge. Edna was the  daughter of Louis Laberge and Marie Bourassa who was born July 10, 1900 and baptized July15th at St. Joseph's Church, Cohoes, NY.  The godparents at the baptism were Alfred Vadnais and Linda Vadnais.
Joseph and Edna were married November 30, 1919 at St. Joseph's Church, Cohoes, NY.
Joseph and Edna had 3 children: Joseph Francis, (1920-1991); spouse Alice Beauregard, Alfred Lawrence (1922-?2012); spouse Ann McCormick, and Joseph (1924); spouse Dean Fetters.
Edna Laberge - I do not have a death date for her.
Joseph died February 28, 1944 at 105 Lancaster St. Cohoes, N and was buried at St. Joseph's cemetery in Waterford, NY. He was 72 years old.

Joseph Bissonnette (Bisnett)

Joseph Bissonnette (Bisnett) was the son of Moise Bissonnette and Julie Kaigle (Goekel). He was born  on May 5, 1849 (info from the Cohoes Republican Newspaper) but I have never been able to verify it with a reliable source). Joseph married Celina Beauvais approximately in 1868 but I have never found the record for this marriage either. Question of it being in Brandon, Vt.or Cohoes, NY  but I went to Brandon and personally searched their vital records and there is no record there. I aso had a search done by the French Canadian Genealogical Society in Burlington, Vt. without success. There is no record of his marriage at St. Joseph's Church (records start in 1867) -the French Canadian church in Cohoes, NY. Possibly he was married in Canada.
Celina was born May 20, 1850 and baptized on May 21, 1850 at Saint Cesaire, St. Cesaire, Rouville, Quebec. Her parents were Solyme Beauvais and Adele Guay. Her godparents were Pierre Goillette and Thermine Beauvais.
Joseph and Celina had 8 children: Julie (1869-1912), Joseph (1871-1944), Alfred (Frederick) 1873-1924) my grandfather, his spouse Helen McClelland, Moses (1876-1883), Elizabeth (Libbie) (1880-1936), Marie Celina (Mamie) (1886-1913), Henriette (1878-?), Marie Celanise (1884 -?). All the children were baptized at St. Joseph's Church in Cohoes, NY. However, Joseph was the only one not born in Cohoes. He was born in Brandon, Vt. Joseph and Celina are listed on the Federal 1870 Census as being in Brandon, Vt. with one child- Julie (one year old).
Joseph died May 1, 1899 (50 yrs old) at 35 White Street, Cohoes, NY and the cause of death was hemorrhage and tuberculosis of the lung. He is buried at St. Joseph's cemetery in Waterford, NY.
Celina died October 19, 1942 (92yrs old) at 105 Lancaster St. Cohoes, NY and the cause of death was myocardia and arteriosclerosis. She was buried on Oct 22, 1942 at St. Joseph's cemetery in Waterford, NY.

Moise Bissonnette

Moise  (Moyse) Bissonnette was the son of Jean Baptiste Bissonnette and Marie Anne Lareau. He was born on Sept.1st and baptized Sept. 2nd , 1822 at St Luc, St Jean, Quebec, Canada. His godparents were Joseph Gagne and Marguerite Tremblay.
Moise and Julie (Julienne) Kaigle were married on October 4, 1842 at Saint Jean-l'Evangeliste de Dorchester, St Jean, Quebec, Canada. Those present were: Jean Baptiste Bissonnette, father of the groom, Francois Bissonnette, brother of the groom, George Kaigle, father of the bride, Louis William, a friend and several other friends.
Julie was the daughter of George Kaigle (Goekel) and Julie Sylvestre and she was born May 29th, 1825 at St Luc, St Luc, St Jean, Quebec, Canada.
Moise and Julie had 11 children: Julia, Moyse, Marie Celina, Joseph (spouse-Celina Beauvais)-my next ancestor,  Marie (spouse-#1Frederic Narbonne, #2 Louis Champagne), Esther, Napoleon, Harriet (Hattie), Charles, Elizabeth (Libbie) (spouse- Hyacinthe Souliere) and Francois. Julia, Moyse, & Marie Celina were all baptized at St Jean l'evangeliste de Dorchester, St Jean, Quebec. Joseph was probably baptized at St. Bernard's in Cohoes, NY because that was the only Catholic Church in Cohoes at that time. On the 1850 Federal Census, Joseph was listed as 1 year old who had been born in New York State. Marie Bissonnette was baptized at St. Bernard's  in 1852. The rest of the children were also probably baptized there but I have no authentic record of them
Moise was the first of the Bissonnettes to come to the United States. He came to Cohoes, New York (Albany County) sometime between January 1848 and May 1949. On the 1880 census, Moise and his family were listed living at 8 Columbia St., Cohoes. After moving to Cohoes, the name Bissonnette was often changed to Bisnett.
Moise died Oct. 6, 1883 at 8 Columbia St., Cohoes and was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Cohoes, NY. Julie died October 23, 1891 at 38 Factory St. (rear), Cohoes, NY and was buried in  Calvary Cemetery, Cohoes, NY.
